Circulation Aide

Position: Circulation Aide

Whelden Memorial Library seeks friendly, customer-service-oriented applicants for the position of Circulation Aide.

This is a part-time, 10-hour-per-week position with the opportunity to substitute for other staff as needed.

Candidates must be able to work a minimum of one evening, with weekend availability being a plus.

We are committed to providing excellent customer service in a welcoming environment, and the Circulation Aide will help ensure smooth day-to-day library operations by assisting patrons with various aspects of library services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons with borrowing services, including checking materials in and out, renewing items, and placing holds.
  • Assist with basic computer and technology questions.
  • Offer general library assistance in a courteous and helpful manner, in line with library policies.
  • Maintain the organization of materials by shelving and conducting shelf-reading tasks.
  • Handle fines, fees, and process payments accurately.
  • Assist with other library tasks as needed, including support for programs, fundraisers, and events.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required; two years of college preferred.

Experience in a public library or customer service setting is highly desirable

 

 

Salary Range

$16.00 - $18.00  /  hour

Programming and Circulation Associate

Part-Time Programming and Circulation Associate, Whelden Memorial Library (Barnstable)

Whelden Memorial Library seeks qualified applicants for the part-time position of Programming and Circulation Associate. This is a part-time, 5–19-hour-per-week position. Candidates must be able to work evenings and Saturdays as needed. The schedule is flexible within reason and largely self-directed, depending on programming plans. This person will plan and implement adult library programming, occasionally assisting the Youth Services Associate with children’s and young adult programs.

 

Duties include communication and outreach to patrons and community members regarding available programming; planning, coordinating, scheduling, and staffing programs; managing event registration, setup, breakdown, and evaluation; taking one-on-one tech support appointments with patrons as needed; and providing occasional coverage at the library service desk.

 

This position requires a high level of independence. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who is comfortable managing their own time and taking initiative. While much of the work is self-directed, the role also involves collaboration with library staff, community members, and partner organizations. The candidate must also be comfortable working alone in the building with program attendees when the library is closed to the public. A crafty and creative spirit is a plus.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent (college degree preferred).

One to three years of related experience is preferred.

Experience and comfort with website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), Canva, and Google Suite strongly preferred.

Willingness to learn new technologies.

Applicants must have strong organizational abilities, excellent communication skills, and exceptional customer service skills.

Some experience with creative marketing is highly desirable.
